How to fix an HP Printer not working after Windows 10 update

HP is an American IT company famous for manufacturing various hardware components and software services programs. HP devices are considered as the best fit for home users. You can get HP devices in various sizes, and features. HP devices are also very budget-friendly. HP offers you a good range of printers. You can easily find a perfect HP printer according to your workload and requirements. HP devices are robust and can work smoothly on every condition. But like other hardware devices; users may face few errors with the HP printer. Many HP users reported that their printer stops working after updating the Windows 10. You can get this kind of error due to various reasons like failed update installation, printer driver corruption, etc. 

Reinstall your HP Printer driver

Sometimes while updating the HP printer can also corrupt your printer driver. Any corruption in the printer driver will show you the printing error. Make sure your Printer driver is updated. Outdated printer drivers can also get you into printing errors. Whenever you get any printing error; check your drivers for updates. If a new driver update is available then you should install in immediately. Finding the correct driver and updating it manually is not an easy task. If you are not from technical background then you may face issues while installing the update. If you don’t want to take risk then you can use any driver update tool on your device. There are many driver update tools available on the internet. Check your device specifications and then install a driver update tool compatible with your device. After downloading, go to the download folder and then run the setup for installation. Now run the program and follow the on-screen instructions. The driver update tool will check for all outdated and corrupted device driver files. This tool automatically updates all the outdated drivers of your device. After updating the printer driver, restart your computer and check for the error. 

Ensure your Windows is updated correctly

If your OS is not completely updated then also you can get the error. It mostly occurs when your update installation process gets interrupted. While installing the new Windows update, make sure your internet is smooth. The update installation process can be interrupted due to weak internet access. If you are not sure that your Windows 10 has updated correctly or not then inspect it immediately. Here are the steps for checking and updating Windows 10 update manually:

  1. Close the running programs
  2. Click on the Windows button
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Choose Update and Security icon
  5. Click on Windows Update tab

Hit the Check for updates button. Wait for a minute until it shows the result. If your device is updated then it will show Up to Date status. But if any new update is available then it will start downloading the update automatically. After installing the update, a request to restart the button will appear on the screen. Restart your computer and then try to give a print command to check whether your HP printer error got resolved or not.  

Check your Print spooler services

The printer spooler allows you to check the status of your printer. You can check the print status, pending print jobs, and other related functions. Go to your print spooler and check whether it is active or not. Here are the steps for checking print spooler service:
  1. Close your programs and press the Windows key and R key together
  2. Your Run dialog box will appear on the screen
  3. Type services.msc on the run box
  4. Press the enter button
  5. Double-click on the Print Spooler tool
  6. Now hit the Stop button. Wait for 5-6 seconds and hit the Start button. Restarting the print spooler can also fix your errors.

Power reset to HP device

You can get this kind of issue due to some runtime errors. Restating the device may fix the runtime errors easily. Some people also reported that their HP device is plugged in not charging HP Windows 10. Power reset will fix this kind of error also. Follow the steps given below for resetting the device:
  1. Press the power button of the printer
  2. Now take out the USB cord from the printer
  3. Unplug the power cord
  4. Now shut down your PC
  5. Wait for 30 seconds
  6. Restart your PC
  7. Now connect the printer USB
  8. Plug the power cord

Give a print command and check whether your HP printer is working or not. If your printer is still showing the same error then seek other solutions. 

Run Windows troubleshooter


If you don’t know the exact cause of your error then use the Window troubleshooter tool. Windows troubleshooting tools in an inbuilt tool which can automatically detect the error and fix it automatically. Press the Windows button from the keyboard and type troubleshoot on the search bar. Go to the Troubleshoot setting button. Now scroll down and click on the Getup and running button. Choose the printer option and then click on Run the troubleshooter button. Wait until you see the result. If your device is showing the wizards the follow the on-screen wizards for troubleshooting the error. Now again give the print command and check whether your HP printer is not working or not. If you are still getting the HP printer error then you should contact the HP support team for help.
